Great job Grade Four! Your shadow plays turned out great and I know how hard each group worked to ensure the plays were performance ready! The audience enjoyed your shadow plays! One grade six student mentioned they were, “adorable.” 🙂

The Gingerbread Man Group:

It was a great idea to build a gingerbread man because the couple was lonely. I liked how you described what the gingerbread man looked like. Each of you spoke clearly and loudly, which helps ensure that the audience can hear you. I enjoyed the ending of the gingerbread taking a shower because he was gooey. Great sound effects while the gingerbread man was taking a shower. Fantastic expressive voice by the gingerbread man! The gingerbread man definitely made me laugh! Nice job with your character designs, as well! 🙂

Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf Group:

Nice job! I could tell you worked hard to speak loudly and with expression, particularly the wolf. I liked how you changed your voice to match with the character. This engages your audience. It definitely made me laugh! Great job with your shadow play character designs as you could tell what they were. Keep working on ensuring you articulate your words clearly, as this will help bring your performance to even greater heights. You did a great job of telling the story of what happened and it included detail and description. A great lesson to everyone, never talk to strangers, particularly wolves! 🙂

Goldilocks and the Three Bears Group

Great work! Your group spoke loudly and clearly. Fantastic job changing the voices to match with the characters. This engages your audience and adds humour to your play. It definitely made me laugh! Nice job with your characters as you could tell who the bears were and the different scenes. Great job not getting flustered when you made a mistake or had to make a scene change. You kept going, a sign of true performers! Great scream at the end of the play when Goldilocks ran away! 🙂

Three Billy Goats Gruff Group

Nice work! You did a great job with your character designs, as you could tell the different sizes of the goats, who the troll was, and the bridge in the background. I could tell you were trying to speak clearly and with expression. Nice job adding the sound effects of the goat clomping over the bridge. This engages your audience and adds humour. I definitely thought it was funny! Keep working on ensuring you articulate your words when you speak, as this will help take your performance to even greater heights! I also noticed the fantastic teamwork by your group when you were creating your play! 🙂

The Three Little Reindeers and the Big Bad Santa Group

Fantastic job! I liked how you created your own play based on the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf but used different characters and without even knowing it you created a fractured fairy tale. Your apartment, Santa, and the reindeers were designed well. Nice job speaking clearly and adding expression to your voices. This engages the audience. I liked how you used, “swoosh,” to tell the audience it was a scene change. Great ending to your play by throwing the fairy dust in the air! I also noticed the fantastic teamwork by group when you were creating the play! 🙂

Congratulations Grade 4 on your super shadow plays!
Since we were away on a field trip the day you performed these, we are glad to be able to see them on this blog. Very fancy!

Our reading group watched your plays and have some comments for you.

The Gingerbread Man: Good job since it is hard to be the ones to go first! We liked your sneezing actions the most. Sometimes we couldn’t hear all of your words so be sure to speak loud enough. The part where the gingerbread boy took a shower was very cute.

Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf: Great job on this story with good expression and great sound effects like “skippity, skippity”. Try to pause after your actions so the audience has time to see what is happening and hear what you are saying before you move on.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears: Your group had lots of wonderful details that showed up really well in the shadows. We especially liked that you had Goldilocks actually lay down to try the beds. Make sure though, that when the puppets are walking, that you have them standing up straight, tee hee.

The Three Billy Goats Gruff: Lovely to see how your goats went walking over the bridge like “real goats” would. We also thought you showed that you had practiced all the actions since everyone knew what to do.

The Three Little Reindeer and the Big Bad Santa: We thought you were very creative because we recognized some of the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf in your story. Your puppets were very detailed and looked great in the shadows.

Thank you Mrs. Nishi and the Grade 2 class. We appreciate that you took the time to watch our shadow plays. Thank you for the detailed comments and suggestions. We will keep the suggestions in mind for our next performance! We enjoy that you visit and comment on our blog! 🙂
