Dear Veteran,

Thank you for fighting in the war to save our lives. I really appreciate the peace and freedom we have on earth. We wear a poppy over our heart to show that we remember all the soldiers who died in the wars. Our Remembrance Day assembly is coming up and we are singing,, “Just One Candle”. Thank you for serving our country.

I learned that long ago soldiers had to go to war even if they didn’t want to. I also learned about the Peace Tower in Ottawa. The Peace Tower has 53 bells on it. It also has interesting symbols around it. The Tower stands 90.6 meters high and was built in honour of the soldiers in World War 1.

In class, we are making a poppy made from clay. After we are done we will put the poppy in a picture frame. In reading groups we are writing a letter to a veteran. I learned that World War 1 ended at 11:00 on November 11th in 1918. That is why at 11:00 we bow our heads for two minutes of silence. I really enjoyed the grade one performance because they sang a song called, “Do You Know Where I Find Peace.”

Well done Heidi!

Nice work, Heidi! You did a great job explaining why we have Remembrance Day. I can tell you learned a great deal from the Remembrance Day comprehension stories we read in class. Great job explaining what you learned. Next time, simply state what you know without saying I learned this. This will make your writing more interesting and descriptive.

I also thought the grade one students did a great job singing. They were very excited to sing and use the glockenspiels. Fantastic job on your clay poppy created in Art class. Keep up the great work! 🙂
