Cool Birds

Today was an amazing day because we Skyped about birds. We all saw a Ruby Crowned Kinglet. It weighs a much as a loonie.  Can you believe it only weighs as much as a loonie? We saw a Saw-Whet Owl. It is black with white spots. The owl only moves his head, but not their eyes. Their heads are sort of shaped like a heart. Their wings are brown with white lines. Northern Saw-Whet Owls are the smallest eastern North American birds. The Fox Sparrow has yellow under his beck. The Fox Sparrow is black with white under the bottom. The eggs are grayish with black spots. Their eggs are also red. Can you believe their eggs can be red? Their  feet are sort of  orange.  The Fox Sparrow is fuzzy like a fox. They caught four birds one was a Ruby Crowned Kinglet, Fox Sparrow, Yellow Rumped Warbler , and a Saw-Whet Owl. The biologists said the birds need bands to help them be tracked in the wild. My favourite part was when they banded the birds.

Nice work, Dylan! You provided some interesting facts about the birds. I would have liked for you to add more detail describing what the birds look like, what they eat, and how they banded and weighed the birds. This is a goal for your next writing project. Great Saw-Whet Owl video! Keep working hard, Dylan! 🙂

Hi Dylan,
I like birds too and I thought it was really cool how the eggs were red! I liked how you really described how the birds looked, I could picture them. Visit my blog at http://blog.elanco.org/wilsona9d/.
