Dear Veterans,

Thank you Veterans for serving our country and for keeping us safe. I am very grateful for your service. Thank you for the peace and freedom we have. Thank you for defending our country. Thank you for making me feel safe wherever I go.

We sang a song called, “A Wish For Peace,” at the Remembrance Day Assembly on Tuesday, November 10th.  We wear a poppy over our heart to show our respect to the fallen soldiers. We are making a poppy picture made out of clay.  I like to wear black and red to show my respect to the soldiers who fought in the war.

We learned about the Peace Tower and that it has 53 bells on it.  The Peace Tower stands as a symbol for Remembrance Day. The Peace Tower also has The Book of Remembrance. Every Canadian soldiers name is in the Book of Remembrance. We also learned about John McCrae and he wrote a poem called, “In Flanders Fields,” because his friend died in the war.

I really enjoy writing about Remembrance Day and about the soldiers who fought in the war. We learned that the poppy used to have a green center, but now it has a black center. I really enjoyed the song that the grade ¾’s were singing because it sounded like country music, and I really enjoy country music. I also really enjoyed the shadow play that the grades 8-9 did because I really enjoy watching people do shadow plays. Every Remembrance Day we have a minute of silence at 11:00 because World War 1 ended on, the eleventh month, eleventh day and the eleventh hour.

Great work, Peter on your post. You did a nice job showcasing your understanding the importance of Remembrance Day. You structured your post well and kept your ideas organized. I like how you explained the Peace Tower and the poem written by John McCrae. I enjoyed the shadow plays as well. Keep working on adding detail and descriptive language to your next writing project. You did a nice job on your clay poppy. Great selection of Remembrance Day pictures and font colour. Keep working hard, Peter! 🙂
