Dear Veteran,

Thank you for fighting and keeping our country safe. Thank you for fighting in other countries to help them gain freedom. Thank you for making me feel safe wherever I go. Thank you for the peace and freedom we have in our country. Thank you for serving our country.

We wear a poppy to remember the fallen soldiers.  War looked like it was scary and difficult. John McCrae wrote the poem in, “Flanders Fields,” because his friend died in the war. We learned a song for Remembrance Day called, “A Wish For Peace.”

We made a clay poppy for Remembrance Day.  I enjoyed listening to the Kindergarten class sing because they were cute and small. We listened to a song called, ”Pittance of Time,” because we wanted to remember the soldiers.  We had two minutes of silence on Remembrance Day to honour the fallen soldiers.

Dear Veteran,

Thank you for fighting and keeping our country safe. Thank you for fighting in other countries to help them gain freedom. I really appreciate how you prove that you are strong to fight against other people. Thank you for keeping our country free.

We learned about how hard it was for soldiers returning from war. We learned we wear a poppy to remember the brave soldiers that fought in war.  We learned about John McCrae and the poem in Flanders Fields. John McCrae wrote the poem after his friend was killed in war. The poppies started to grow after John McCrae wrote the poem.

We had a Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 10th. I liked what the Junior High shadow play. We sang, “A Wish for Peace,” by Denise Gagne. In class we read a poem called, “Why Wear a Poppy.” We listened to the Bryan Adams song called, “Never Let Go,” and it is written for all the soldiers who fought in war. We listened to a song called, “Pittance of Time,” by Terry Kelly. It was about where soldiers are marching in a store and man sees them and bows his head in silence to remember the fallen soldiers.

Dear Veteran,

Thank you for serving our country. I am glad that you fought for us. Thank you for fighting in other countries to help them gain freedom. We watched a clip called, “A Poppy is to Remember,” which showed how scary it must be to fight in a war. We saw graves of soldiers, guns, and tanks.  What a terrible thing to go through. I know it would be sad if I lost someone in my family.

I learned that 38 million people died in war. I heard that there is a thick book that told that how many people died. Each year they flip a page because they were fighting wars.  John McCrae wrote a poem about the soldiers that died in Flanders Fields. I think that it is sad that they lost one there people in their family. The Peace Tower is in Ottawa. The Peace Tower has 53 bells on it.

We sang a song called, “A Wish for Peace,” at the Remembrance Day Assembly.   I enjoyed singing on the stage in front of the audience. We wear a poppy on Remembrance Day to show respect for those who died for us in the war. We are making a poppies out of clay. Then we are putting the poppy in a picture frame. There was also a veteran at the assembly. The first world war was in 1914.

Dear Veterans,

Thank you Veterans for serving our country and for keeping us safe. I am very grateful for your service. Thank you for the peace and freedom we have. Thank you for defending our country. Thank you for making me feel safe wherever I go.

We sang a song called, “A Wish For Peace,” at the Remembrance Day Assembly on Tuesday, November 10th.  We wear a poppy over our heart to show our respect to the fallen soldiers. We are making a poppy picture made out of clay.  I like to wear black and red to show my respect to the soldiers who fought in the war.

We learned about the Peace Tower and that it has 53 bells on it.  The Peace Tower stands as a symbol for Remembrance Day. The Peace Tower also has The Book of Remembrance. Every Canadian soldiers name is in the Book of Remembrance. We also learned about John McCrae and he wrote a poem called, “In Flanders Fields,” because his friend died in the war.

I really enjoy writing about Remembrance Day and about the soldiers who fought in the war. We learned that the poppy used to have a green center, but now it has a black center. I really enjoyed the song that the grade ¾’s were singing because it sounded like country music, and I really enjoy country music. I also really enjoyed the shadow play that the grades 8-9 did because I really enjoy watching people do shadow plays. Every Remembrance Day we have a minute of silence at 11:00 because World War 1 ended on, the eleventh month, eleventh day and the eleventh hour.

                                                                                                                                                                                                               Yours Truly,

Dear Veteran,

Thank you for fighting for country. Thank you for keeping our country safe so we do not get hurt from enemies. Thank you for helping others gain freedom and saving other people. Thank you for all the soldiers who fought in war like the one who spoke at our school for the Remembrance Day Assembly. Thank you for letting us feel safe when we go to school.  Not like some students who have to go school when guns, bombs, and tanks are going off.  Thank you for your service and fighting in war so we can be safe. Thank you for the day of remembrance that we can think of our blessings and that we can think of what the soldiers have gone through at war.

We watched a clip called, “A Poppy Is To Remember.” It showed us how scary it must be to fight in a war. We learned that the Peace Tower, in Ontario had fifty three bells in different sizes. There is a Book of Remembrance in the Peace Tower. Every year they would turn the page in the book to remember all the soldiers who fought in war. We learned that sometimes they fight for land. We learned about John McCrae.  He was born in Guelph, Ontario. He also wrote a poem after his friend died in the war in Flanders Fields.

We are making a clay poppy picture for Remembrance Day. We sang, “A Wish For Peace,” for Remembrance Day. We are typing a letter about Remembrance Day.  We had a Remembrance Day Assembly on Tuesday November 10th . We sang O’Canada at the assembly.  There was a veteran named Mr. Eichelbaum.  He started fighting when he was 23 years old. I enjoyed the 2 minutes of silence to remember the fallen soliders and we watched a short video about the soldiers.

 Dear Veteran,

Thank you for keeping our country safe and free. I appreciate that I can go to school without any bombs or guns going off. I wear a poppy on Remembrance Day over my heart to show I appreciate what you have done for our country. Thank you for keeping many people safe. Thank you for fighting in many different countries for freedom.

The Peace Tower is found in Ottawa.  It is 90.6 meters high and it has 53 bells. Inside the Peace Tower is a room called the Memorial Chamber. In the Chamber is a Book of Remembrance. The name of each Canadian soldier who died during the war is found in the Book of Remembrance.   John McCrae, a doctor who was born in Ontario in 1872 wrote the poem, “In Flanders Fields,” about the graves where a red flower called a poppy grew.  Many people lost their homes after the war. There were over 38 million people who died during World War 1.

We are making a poppy out of clay.  We are singing a song called, “A Wish For Peace,’’ by Denise Gagne. Our class read a book called “A Poppy is to Remember. We had a Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 10th. We listened to a song by Bryan Adams called Never Let Go. I was glad that a lot of people came to the school to watch. There was a veteran at the assembly. He had medals on each side. He was 22 years old when he started to fight in the war. I liked the song that the grade two’s sang for the Remembrance Day Ceremony it was called, “Teaching Peace,” by Red Grammer.

Dear Veteran,

Thank you for keeping our country safe. I appreciate your service because we have peace and freedom in our country. Thank you for letting us go to school in a peaceful and free environment. Thank you for keeping our families safe. Thank you for handing out poppies so we can show respect.

We learned that we wear a poppy over our heart to show respect. We learned about the Peace Tower. The Peace Tower has 53 bells on it that are different sizes. We learned at the Remembrance Day Service we bow our heads because World War 1 came to an end at eleven o’clock, on November 11th, in1918. We learned that there were over 38 million soldiers that died.

fighter jet Dear Veteran,

Thank you for fighting in all the wars for our country.  I really appreciate that you are keeping peace on Earth. We wear a red and black poppy over our heart on Remembrance Day to remember the soldiers who died for us. We are sorry for the hard fight, but are thankful to the soldiers for fighting for us. Thank you for serving our country.

We learned about John McCrae. He went to University to become a doctor. He also liked to write poetry. He wrote a poem that was called, “In Flanders Fields.”  He wrote it because his friend died in war. We also learned about World War 1. Many young men were forced to go to war to serve our country.

tank          poppy  soilder We also learned about the Peace Tower. The Peace Tower is found on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.  It is a free standing bell tower located in front of the center block of the parliament buildings.  It was built to honour the soldiers who died in World War 1. The tower stands 90.6 meters high. It has a clock with four faces and a group of 53 bells of different sizes. The bells are often heard on special days and ring on Remembrance Day.

In class, we are making a poppy out of clay. We are making it so we can remember those who died for us. We sang the song, “A Wish For Peace,” for our Remembrance Day Assembly on Tuesday, November 10th.  The junior highs did a shadow play for the Remembrance Day Assembly. I really enjoyed the junior high shadow play because they read their speaking parts while they were doing the play.  At 11:00 a.m. we bowed our heads for two minutes of silence to thank the soldiers who died for us in the war.

We Skyped with Bird Studies Canada in Ontario.  The first bird was a Rudy Crowned Kinglet.  It was black and gray and his head was red.  It weighs 7 grams, which is as much as a loonie.   The next bird was the Fox Sparrow.  It has a gray head , brown wings  and it is a small bird. It only 6-7 inches long. It was funny how they weighed the birds. They put the bird in a can upside down, so it wouldn’t fly away.   They put the band on with the tong and then put it on their foot. The next bird was a  Saw-Whet Owl.  It is a tiny bird because it was a baby! The Saw-Whet Owl eats, mice birds, and other insects. The next bird is the Yellow Rumped Warbler.  It was black with a yellow rump. It eats fruit and berries.  It was enjoyable because we got to see the birds up close.                           Northern Saw-whet_Owl_KameronPerensovich_FlickrCC_3148951_Yellow-rumped_Warbler_06-04-2012_3FoxSparrow5

On Tuesday we Skyped with Bird Studies Canada in Ontario.  The people that studied about birds were called biologists. We saw A Fox Sparrow.  It looked just like a furry fox and it had a tiny gray head like a golf ball.  We  saw a Ruby Crowned Kinglet.  It had a red crown on the back of its head. The biologists check their nets 15 to 20 minutes a day to see if they caught any birds.  The Yellow Rumped Warbler was black and had a yellow rump.  It enjoys eating berries.  We had a surprise!  It was a Saw-Whet Owl.  It had yellow eyes and a large heaowl med and makes high pitched coo, coo sounds. We saw how the they banded the birds.   The biologists gently put a little band on the birds foot. Sometimes they capture 300 birds in the morning. My favourite part was our surprise, the Saw-Whet Owl because I have never seen an owl that close before.  owl me
