Alberta Teaching Standards

As a teacher in Alberta I feel it is important to acknowledge the knowledge, skills, and attributes set forth by the province.  These standards are designed to support academic and emotional growth.  They are the following:

1. Teachers apply the KSA’s based on their ongoing analysis of contextual variables.

2. Teachers understand the moral and ethical framework within which they work.

3. Teachers understand the subject disciplines they teach.

4. Teachers know there are many approaches to teaching and learning.

5. Teachers engage in a range of planning activities.

6. Teachers create and maintain environments that are conducive to student learning.

7. Teachers translate curriculum content and objectives into meaningful learning activities.

8. Teachers gather and use information about students learning needs and progress.

9. Teachers establish and maintain partnerships among school, home and community.

10. Teachers are career-long learners.

Videos

The first one is how creativity takes time!  So true!  Giving students the time to be creative leads to wonderful creations!

And I like how taking the “right way out,” fosters creativity!

One of my favourite videos: Every Kid Needs a Champion from Rita Pierson.
