Students did a fantastic job on their shadow plays. This project incorporated objectives from the light and shadows unit in Science, as well as, taking a Fairy Tale and rewriting a version of their own. Students learned how to collaborate and co-operate in their groups. This project also included musical instruments after learning about, “Peter and the Wolf.” Lastly, enjoyed performing their shadow plays to students from K-6.
Take a look at the Grade 4 shadow plays. Students created their own version of story by using ideas from well known Fairy Tales, such as, “The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf,” “The Three Billy Goats Gruff,” and “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.” Students also used musical instruments to introduce each of their shadow puppets for dramatic effect. To help them understand this concept, students learned about, “Peter and the Wolf,” which is unique as the story is narrated by incorporating musical instruments to identify each character in the story. Students created the shadow puppet play as this unit is covered in, “The Light and Shadows,” unit.
