Today was an amazing day because we got to see three birds and one owl.  The owl was our surprise. The Ruby Crowned Kinglet weighs as much as a loonie and  eats corn. The Ruby Crowned Kinglet has a red point on its’ head. The Saw-Whet Owl was white and brown. My favourite bird was the Fox Sparrow and the Saw-Whet Owl. I enjoyed Skyping with them because it was so amazing. I liked how the biologists banded the birds because they said it did not hurt them. The did not band the Saw-Whet Owl. We learned what the birds were called.  They can catch about 300 birds in one morning. I enjoyed Skyping with them. They weighed the birds and then they told us how much the birds weighed. My favourite thing was the colour of the birds.

Nice work, David! You did a great job explaining what some of the birds looked like and what they ate. However, I would like for you to continue working on adding more detail and descriptive words to your writing. This a goal for your next writing project. Great owl picture and video! Keep working hard, David! 🙂

Hi David, I’m glad you enjoyed helping us study birds at Long Point Bird Observatory! It was exciting to compare 4 different bird groups (warbler; sparrow; kinglet; owl), so we could see the differences in their size, shape, beaks, feet and colors. You can use these clues to identify birds in your schoolyard too!
