Our class had a presenter named Jenny Ellert come in from a farm and tell us about what bugs can do to plants. We learned that there are beneficial bugs and just bugs that are pests! Also we learned that Ladybugs are actually Lady Beetles! We learned that  even flies can help plants grow! Jenny Ellert also brought a large case of bugs so we could see  the bugs . 🙂 We also learned the if you see a bug in your crops you shouldn’t spray your crops because it can also kill the benificial bugs.  Here are some pictures of what we saw.

Yesterday a lady name Jenny Ellert came to our class and talked about insects. She even brought a glass box of insects and she gave us candy. She was talking about wheat, crops and  how a lot of  bad insects were eating the roots. We even learned Ladybugs are not called Ladybugs they are called Lady Beetles. She even gave us a book to write in.

Agriculture

Did you know not all bugs are bad?   Some bugs are good to crops and other bugs ruin crops. The good bugs are good because they protect the crops from getting ruined by the bad bugs.  Farmer’s fields have the most bugs. If the farmer sees one bad bug, it doesn’t mean they have to spray.  If farmer sprays the field it will kill the good bugs too.   However, if there is a big problem with bad bugs the farmer will have to spray the field!!!!! Did you know that a Lady Bug is actually called a Lady Beetle?   Isn’t that cool!!!!  The presenter, Jenny Ellert, showed us a big box of bugs.  I really enjoyed it!!!!

Reisig-Kudzu-BugYesterday March 5th 2014 , we had a presenter, named Jenny Ellert who taught us about agriculture. One of the things I learned was about bugs. Some bugs eat crops and cause crops to die. We also learned that Ladybugs are actually Lady Beetles.  Sometimes there are good bugs to eat the bad bugs and sometimes they need to spray the crops with chemicals.  I enjoyed the presentation.

Yesterday, a young woman named Jenny Ellert, came to do a presentation on agriculture   She taught us how to take care of crops that have insects and can cause crops to die. We also learned that a Ladybug is really called a Lady Beetle. We even got to look at some bugs that cause crops to die and some good bugs that try to help the keep the farmer’s crops safe.Agriculture

I really enjoyed the agriculture presentation. I like how the presenter, Jenny Ellert, taught us about what she did on the farm. I also like that she had a lot of insects with her in a glass case, so we could look at them. I learned that insects can be harmful, but helpful as well.  It was nice of Jenny to give us a candy bag and colouring book.

I enjoyed the agriculture presentation and learning about insects. The presenter discussed how insects can harm farmer’s fields. The presenter taught us why should not spray fields too easily because there are some insects that are helpful.  They eat the insects that harm the farmer’s fields. The agriculture presenter gave us a colouring book and some candy.   That was nice of her!

In Science we completed the unit called light and shadows.  We learned about convex and concave lenses.  In class, we did a shadow play. Some people did the Three Billy Goats Gruff. Others did the Gingerbread Man, The Three Little Reindeer, The Big Bad Santa, The Three Bears, and Little Red Riding Hood!  We made kaleidoscopes, periscopes, binoculars, and telescopes. It was really fun. We learned that a periscope allows you to see around corners and over walls. We learned that binoculars are just two telescopes stuck together and you can see really far with them too! We learned that kaleidoscopes have many different shapes, colours, and designs. We learned that telescopes make things look closer than they really are. Here are some pictures below.

I Love Science!!!

I love science because we finished learning about optical devices. We built a kaleidoscope, binoculars, periscope, and a telescope. Any student that would be in grade four right now would have really enjoyed it! My favourite optical device that we built was the periscope.  I learned that there are two mirrors in the periscope that reflect and when you look in one end it looks like you are looking straight, but you are actually looking up.   I learned that the kaleidoscope has many different colours, designs and shapes. I learned that the binoculars are just two telescopes stuck together.  I learned that the telescope makes objects larger than they really are. Here are some pictures of the things we built and take a look at my teacher’s Twitter feed to see our finished projects.
